Gillian A. Hirsch concentrates her practice on the protection of family and individual assets with a focus on elder law, long-term care and estate planning, estate probate and administration, and legal agreements in contemplation of marriage and divorce.
She is a Long Island native who grew up spending summers with her family just blocks from the Saratoga Race Course. Gillian later covered news and sports, including horseracing from the track's press box, as a reporter for The Saratogian newspaper.
Following her graduation from Albany Law School in 1996, Gillian spent a good part of her career serving the public. She was an Assistant District Attorney in Brooklyn, NY, the busiest district attorney's office in the United States. She then served as an Administrative Law Judge for the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, conducting administrative hearings related to child abuse and maltreatment. Gillian later became Counsel to the Deputy Majority Leader of the New York State Senate, where she served as floor counsel and participated in difficult negotiations between Senate and other leaders. Most recently, before entering private practice, Gillian was Principal Court Attorney to a New York State Supreme Court Justice, whose successful campaign she managed.
As a volunteer, Gillian has successfully mediated many city court matters. She is trained in collaborative divorce, an alternative to lengthy and costly court battles.
Gillian was admitted to the New York State Bar in January 1997 and the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York in July 1998. She graduated from Leadership Saratoga's Class of 1999, has served on several local boards, and is a member of the Saratoga Hospital Foundation Legacy Society. Gillian is a member of the New York State, Capital District Women's and Saratoga County Bar Associations. She is a member of the trusts and estates and elder law sections of the bar association, as well as the Collaborative Divorce Association of the Capital District and Capital Collaborative Practice Group.
Gillian balances her commitment to her clients and their families with her devotion to her own family of five, including her three children, who attend Saratoga Springs high, middle and pre schools.
